I'm currently looking at two different kinds of organic compost and I was wondering which one would be better for my new isopod colony (common woodlice). One is mushroom compost and retains more water and the other is vegetable compost & has stuff like mites and tiny organisms in it. Is there any chance the vegetable compost would be harmful to my colony bc of the stuff in it? Should I just stick with the mushroom one?? Both are all purpose if that changes anything. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi mushroom will be much better than the vegetable because it holds moisture and doesn't have many other critters but I don't recommend either one of those because it just doesn't work well, go with something like moss(No Dye of course) or coconut husk/coco coir they both retain moisture pretty well and isopods and you could put a few mushrooms in there or you could get tomato plant seed to grow and they will eat the sprout or you could top it off with dried leaves i used both and my isopods are growing like crazy I suggest you buy the leaves from online or you could gather some leaves outside then boil them then wait until they dry if you are gonna ask why do I need to boil the leaves its to get rid of parasites bacteria and other unwanted hitchhikers -Kim Former reptile/Isopod keeper
